Applying for an extension of the building permit for the construction of an installation

You can apply for an extension of the building permit for up to two years at a time if you have a valid building permit for the construction of an installation for your building project.

The building permit expires if you do not start building work within three years of the permit being granted or if building work has been interrupted for one year.

The deadline can be extended by up to two years in each case with a written application if the legal requirements have not changed in the meantime and the application has been received by the lower building supervisory authority before the deadline expires. The extension of the building permit is subject to a fee.

The lower building supervisory authorities are responsible.

An informal application is sufficient.

• Valid building permit
• Application before expiry of the extension period of three years since the building permit was issued
• the legal requirements have not changed in the meantime

An appeal may be lodged against the authority's decision within one month of notification.

• You make the application informally and submit it to the responsible building supervisory authority together with any necessary documents.
• The building supervisory authority will review your application.
• If the factual and legal situation has not changed, there is nothing to prevent an extension of up to two years. The extension is subject to a fee.

The fee is to be calculated proportionately according to the extent to which the building permit is anticipated by the preliminary decision.
