Fees charged for an international adoption Survey

What fees are there for adopting a child from abroad?

    Description

In the case of an international adoption, fees are charged for carrying out a general suitability test, which is carried out by an adoption agency. In addition, the international placement agency charges fees for carrying out an international adoption placement procedure, including a country-specific suitability test. The amount of the costs are fixed by law for state agencies, i.e. the adoption agency of the youth welfare office and the central adoption agency of the state youth welfare office. The independent adoption agencies and foreign adoption agencies set their own fees.

Further costs are incurred when adopting a child from abroad. These include costs for flights, accommodation, certifications, translations of certificates and suitability reports as well as for the dispatch of documents. Legal and court costs may also be incurred abroad.

      Procedure

The adoption agencies, the independent international placement agency and the central adoption offices of the state youth welfare offices will inform you about the procedure and the costs. Before a general suitability test is carried out, the international placement agency responsible for you should be known and involved in the process. This can either be an independent international placement agency or a central adoption office of the state youth welfare office.

An application for a general suitability test for the adoption of a child from abroad can be submitted to the locally responsible adoption agency or a recognized independent adoption agency. The fees are charged during the suitability test.

If a general suitability test is available, the foreign placement agency responsible for you will begin the country-specific suitability test. The application to the international placement office is usually submitted at the start of the procedure. You will be invoiced for the fees once the application has been submitted.

      Processing time

The fees will be invoiced by the adoption agency and the foreign placement agency after the applications have been submitted.
