Apply for grants from the forest conservation levy

Funds from the forest conservation levy can be made available on application by the Hessian Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.

Grants from the forest conservation levy are to be earmarked for the conservation of the forest, including the improvement of its protective and recreational functions.

Grants are awarded for measures for the sustainable improvement of forest functions:

• Acquisition of forest land,
• forest protection measures and damage management measures,
• Land acquisition with the aim of afforestation,
• Initial afforestation of areas,
• Land acquisition for the purpose of voluntary exchange of land with the aim of initial afforestation,
• recultivation into forest and for the reforestation of damaged landscapes.

Approval of the measure by the subcommittee of the State Forestry Committee on the use of the forest conservation levy

Funds from the forest conservation levy can be provided by the Hessian Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection upon application (also online application).

After examination, the application is submitted to the State Forestry Committee for a decision. If the decision is positive, approval is granted.

• There is no legal entitlement to the granting of these funds
• For measures in Natura 2000 areas, funds from the forest conservation levy can be allocated directly to the foundation capital of the Hessian Natura 2000 Foundation
• Funds from the forest conservation levy may not be used for measures that are already supported by public funds or for which there is a legal obligation to implement them

Decisions on the use of funds from the forest conservation levy are made in accordance with the state budget.
