You must notify the lower nature conservation authority of the construction of animal enclosures.

Animal enclosures are permanent facilities that are set up outside residential and commercial buildings. You can keep animals of wild species in an animal enclosure.

Before you start building an animal enclosure, you must notify the project at least one month in advance. To do this, submit the necessary information to the lower nature conservation authority.

The lower nature conservation authority can issue orders to ensure compliance with species and nature conservation during the construction of the animal enclosure.

• You must operate the animal enclosure as a permanent facility for at least seven days a year.
• You must keep the animals outside residential and commercial buildings.
• You may not operate the animal enclosure as a zoo for the purpose of displaying the animals.
• You must comply with animal and species protection regulations.
• You must not impair the ecosystem or the landscape.
• You must not restrict access to forests, meadows and waterways.

As this is a notification procedure, no administrative decisions are made against which an appeal could be lodged.

Notify the lower nature conservation authority of the construction of the animal enclosure at least one month in advance. You can submit the notification by online form, e-mail or post.

The lower nature conservation authority will check your information from the point of view of nature conservation and landscape management. If you do not meet the requirements for setting up the animal enclosure, the lower nature conservation authority can issue appropriate orders.
