Apply for educational assistance or care assistants

Does your child have problems in everyday life or in his development? As a parent, you can't help your child on your own? Then a parenting assistant can support your child.

A parenting assistant or a care assistant can help a child or adolescent in everyday life, in dealing with his parents and with social problems. It is an educational aid to which persons with custody are entitled if an education in the best interests of the child is not guaranteed and the assistance is appropriate and necessary for his or her development. The educational assistance or care assistant should support the child or adolescent in coping with developmental problems, as far as possible with the involvement of the social environment and promote his independence, taking into account the relationship to life to the family.

Possible aids are:

• Conversations about problems, fears, and behavior
• Help in dealing with stressful experiences
• Support in solving problems with family, friends, teachers or others
• Support in dealing with authorities
• There are other aids for older young people: Support in finding work and housing
• Help with detachment from parents
• Help for independence

Note: In contrast to "socio-educational family assistance", educational assistance concentrates his help largely on the child or young person concerned. If possible, he takes into account the social environment.
It is a type of benefit for educational aids. It may also apply to young adults.

• You are the person with custody of a child (parents or guardians)
• They can't all guarantee that the child will be okay
• The help of an educational assistant or care assistant is suitable and necessary.

• Please contact the responsible youth welfare office.
• In a personal conversation you will be shown possible help. This can be, for example, a parenting assistant or a care assistant for your child.
• If this assistance is eligible, then submit an application for educational aid.
• Everyone involved (you, your child. Educational assistance/care assistants and the youth welfare office) meet for a help plan discussion. The aid plan specifies how the aid is to be designed and which objectives are to be achieved.
• The Youth Welfare Office commissions an independent provider of welfare care. This is where the educational assistant or the care assistant is employed.

The processing time is individual.

In the case of outpatient assistance for education, there are no costs for the applicant. The costs are covered by the Youth Welfare Office.
