Replace company card due to theft or loss

You are a company that operates in the commercial transportation of goods and passengers and are applying to replace a company card due to theft or loss.

The company cards are issued or delivered to the entrepreneurs or the persons appointed to represent them by law, the articles of association or the partnership agreement.

The entrepreneurs ensure that the cards are used properly. In addition, they must ensure that the company card is entered into the tachograph at the beginning and end of the vehicle use for the company in order to assign the use of the vehicle to the company.

Entrepreneurs are responsible for the regular storage of the data read from the tachographs and must hand them over to the authorities or their representatives upon request.

The application must be submitted in person or online by the entrepreneur or a person authorized to represent them or an authorized person.

Company cards are issued impersonally to the company and are generally sent directly to the company.

The expiry date of the company card to be replaced (replacement card) corresponds to the expiry date of the previous company card if the remaining term is more than 185 calendar days

In the event of theft or loss of the company card, proof of a report (theft report from the police) or, if the card is lost, a written declaration (declaration of loss) must be submitted to the responsible office when the application is submitted. On request, the competent authority may require an affidavit.

If the remaining term of the card is less than 6 months, the card will be renewed.

When the replacement card is issued, the replaced card loses its validity

A recovered card must be returned to the issuing authority or body.

- As an authorized representative, a power of attorney or - as the owner of the company - an informal letter stating your name, address, date and place of birth.
- Confirmation from the police regarding the theft report, if applicable

Operator cards are issued to the operator or the persons and vehicle owners appointed to represent them by law, articles of association or partnership agreement, whose drivers carry out transportation that falls under the scope of Regulation (EC) No. 561/2006 or who must comply with the driving and rest periods in accordance with Section 1 of the Driving Personnel Ordinance (FPersV) or who must download data from the mass memory in accordance with Section 57a (3) of the StVZO.

Depending on the federal state, you can submit the application for the replacement of your company card with the required documents and information online or on site at

• At your local driving license authority
• or another competent authority (e.g. TÜV, DEKRA).
• In order to identify yourself online and check your documents, you must have the option of online authentication via a company account and digital upload of the required documents.
• You can pay for the application online via a payment service provider.
• The creation of a company card is subject to a fee.
• As part of the application process, you must provide all the required information and submit or upload documents.
• The responsible office will check your details for completeness and accuracy.
• After a successful check, the KBA (Federal Motor Transport Authority) will issue the company card.

Administrative fine from 30,00 EUR to 45,00 EUR

If the company card is lost, the office processing the application and issuing the card must be informed immediately.
