Applying for an extension of the driving license to category T

With a category T driving license (colloquially known as a "large tractor driving license"), you can drive more powerful vehicles in agriculture and forestry.

You can extend your driving license with the independent category T driving license.

With a category T driving license (colloquially known as a "large tractor driving license"), you can drive more powerful vehicles in agriculture and forestry. This category allows you to drive tractors up to 60 km/h. A maximum speed limit of 40 km/h applies to self-propelled machinery and feed mixers. Here too, a trailer may also be towed.

Driving license category T is issued for an unlimited period.

Driving license category T is a national category. It is not automatically valid in other countries.

• You must have your normal place of residence in the Federal Republic of Germany
• You must have reached the minimum age of 16 years

You must apply for the extension of your driving license to include category T at the driving license authority responsible for you.

The application for the initial issue of a driving license expires if the theory test has not been passed within twelve months of receipt of the test application.

The processing time depends on the workload of the responsible authority.

The fees are set by the competent authority in accordance with the applicable scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOst).
