Apply for class B extension

You can extend your driving license with a class B driving license.

You can extend your existing driving license to a category B license.

The category B driving license is issued for an unlimited period.

With a category B driving license, you can drive motor vehicles with a maximum permissible mass of 3.5 t and designed for no more than eight people.

You can transport trailers weighing less than 750 kg with a category B license. If the total mass of the vehicle combination is a maximum of 3.5 t, the trailer may also weigh more than 750 kg.

The responsibility lies with the driving license authority.

• a biometric photograph in accordance with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (size 45 x35, portrait format, frontal view)
• Eye test certificate in accordance with Annex 6 No. 1.1 FeV (not older than two years)

• The minimum age is 18 years. You can apply for an extension of your driving license at the earliest 6 months before reaching the minimum age.

You must apply to your competent driving license authority for an extension of your driving license to category B.

The practical examination must be taken within twelve months of passing the theoretical examination. Otherwise the theoretical examination loses its validity.

The fee is based on the applicable scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).

If a category AM, L or T driving license is extended to another category for the first time, a probationary period is set for the new category.
