If you, as an expert or expert for weapons or ammunition, possess or wish to acquire them, you need permission to do so.

If you need weapons or ammunition to work as an expert or expert, you need a permit. Scientific or technical purposes, testing, assessment or investigation and similar purposes are recognised as reasons. As proof of scientific activity, publications or other proof of specialist knowledge will usually be requested from you. An expert activity is to be separated from a collecting activity. A public law appointment and swearing-in by a Chamber of Crafts is not required of you. The permit is usually issued to you for firearms or ammunition of any kind.

Please contact the weapons authority in your district administration or the administration of your independent city.

• Proof of your expertise
• Proof of your needs, for example future orders for expert work with firearms (in the case of scientific activity, for example, publications to prove your expertise)
• Proof (certificates or safety reports) that your weapons and ammunition are safely stored

• You are at least 18 years old.
• They are reliable in the sense of the Weapons Act.
• They are personally suitable within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
• They are competent within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
• They have a need in the sense of the Weapons Act. You need firearms or ammunition to work as an expert or expert.

You can obtain permission as follows:

• You submit an application and submit the necessary documents.
• The required documents will be checked, if necessary you must submit further required documents.
• Your age, reliability, personal suitability, expertise and needs will be examined (§ 4 para. 1 nos. 1 to 4 WaffG).
• The decision by the weapons authorities is made.

Period of validity of the permit: usually unlimited
Advertisement purchase: within 2 weeks, unless weapon is owned for a maximum of 3 months
Notification Provided: within 2 weeks

Administration fee: according to time spent plus at least EUR 22 Surcharge or according to time spent in case of reliability and suitability test to be carried out
