Take the state examination in pharmacy

If you are studying pharmacy at a Hessian university and would like to take a section of the pharmaceutical examination (state examination), you must apply for admission.

The pharmaceutical examination (state examination) is part of the pharmaceutical training and must be taken in three sections. Pharmacy students at a Hessian university who wish to take the pharmaceutical examination must register for and be admitted to this examination in advance.

Registration takes place at the Hessian State Office for Health and Care (HLfGP).

This is where, among other things, the state examinations are organized, applications for admission are received, invitations are issued and certificates are issued.

The licensing regulations for pharmacists list in detail which evidence and information must be enclosed with the application.

1. Section of the pharmaceutical examination (PH1)

• Signed application form
• Birth certificate
• Documents that result in a change of name (e.g. marriage certificate)
• University entrance qualification/school leaving certificate
• Master data sheets
• Medical clerkship certificates
• Certificates of course attendance (certificate of regular and successful participation in the courses required for admission to the examination in accordance with Section 6 (3) (5) of the Licensing Regulations for Pharmacists (AAppO)).

1. Section of the Pharmaceutical Examination (PH2)

• Signed application form
• Master data sheets
• Certificate of course attendance (certificate of regular and successful participation in the courses to be completed in accordance with Section 6 (4) (3) of the Licensing Regulations for Pharmacists (AAppO)).

• if the PH1 was not taken in Hesse additionally:
  • Certificate of the 1st section of the pharmaceutical examination
  • birth certificate
  • Documents that result in a change of name (e.g. marriage certificate)

1. Section of the pharmaceutical examination (PH3)

• Signed application form
• Certificates of the practical year (PJ)
• Certificates of participation in the accompanying lessons (BU)
• if the PH2 was not taken in Hessen additionally:
  • Birth certificate
  • Documents that result in a change of name (e.g. marriage certificate)
  • Certificate of the 2nd section of the pharmaceutical examination

• Personal appearance required: no

The pharmaceutical examination (state examination) is taken in three sections:

• the first section after studying pharmacy for at least two years,
• the second section after passing the first section of the pharmaceutical examination and having studied pharmacy for at least four years,
• the third section after passing the second section

Objection & legal action (Administrative Procedure Act)

• Admission to the pharmaceutical examination must be applied for online:
• The application is submitted electronically
• Confirmation of receipt will be sent by e-mail immediately after the online application has been submitted.
• The application for admission can be withdrawn without giving reasons as long as the notification of admission or rejection of admission has not yet been delivered. The application must be withdrawn in writing.
• Admission and the invitation to the written part of the examination will be sent via the electronic mailbox at least 7 days before the examination.
• You will receive further details on the examination venue, start and duration of the examination, seat number (PH1), procedure and technique of the examination process with the admission letter.
• You must print out the admission or invitation and bring it with you to the examination.
• Certificates of passing the examination will be sent by post. Notifications of failed examinations are sent by post.
• Delivery is only possible to a domestic address.

The application for admission to an examination section must be submitted in writing in the form prescribed by the HLfGP and must be received by the HLfGP by January 10 (spring date) or June 10 (fall date) for the first section of the Pharmaceutical Examination. The application for admission to the second and third sections of the Pharmaceutical Examination must be received by the HLfGP by the date announced by the HLfGP.

The admission and invitation to the examination will be sent via the electronic mailbox at least 7 days before the examination. In accordance with Section 12 of the Licensing Regulations for Pharmacists (AAppO).

Examination fee: Fee 95,00 EUR

The fee must also be paid if admission is refused or withdrawal is declared after admission. If the application is withdrawn before admission or rejection has been granted, a reduced fee of EUR 40.00 must be paid.: Fee 40,00 EUR
