Apply for the renewal of a driving license of classes D, DE, D1 or D1E

If you have a driver's license for a D class and it is about to expire, you can apply for an extension at the driver's license office.

The driving license of classes D, DE, D1 or D1E is valid for a maximum of 5 years. If you have such a driving license and it is about to expire, you can have it renewed. You make the application at the driver's license office in your place of residence. The extension is also valid for a maximum of 5 years.

• identity card or passport
• current driver's license
• biometric photo
• proof of eyesight (not older than 2 years)
• proof of physical and mental fitness (not older than 1 year)
• if you are 50 years or older: performance psychology certificate (not older than 1 year)

• You have a driver's license with a class D, D1, DE or D1E driver's license.
• You are suitable to drive a bus.

You can submit the application at the earliest 6 months before the expiry of the previous driver's license.

If you apply after the expiry of the previous driver's license, the license will no longer be extended, but a new driver's license will be issued. The fact that you already held a corresponding driver's license at some time in the past will then no longer be evident from the new driver's license.

The fee is based on the Fee Regulations for Road Traffic Measures (GebOSt).

If the driver's license is sent directly to the home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.

You will always get a new driver's license.
