Renewal of a temporary category C, CE, C1 or C1E driving licence

You can extend your category C, CE, C1, C1E driving licences for five years upon application.

Category C, CE, C1 or C1E licences shall be issued for a maximum period of five years and may be renewed for a period of five years at the request of the licence holder.

The driving licence authority is responsible for this.

• Official proof of place and date of birth (e.g. identity card, passport)
• previous driver's license
• a current photograph that complies with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (biometrics-compatible, size 45 mm x 35 mm, portrait format)
• Proof of vision according to the model of Annex 6 No. 2 to the Driving Licence Ordinance. You can have the certificate issued by an ophthalmologist, by a company or occupational physician or by a doctor of the health authority. An issued expert opinion/certificate is valid for 2 years.
• Proof of physical and mental fitness according to the model of Annex 5 to the Driving Licence Ordinance You can have the certificate issued by any doctor. At the time of application, the certificate must not be older than one year.

You must prove your eyesight and present a medical certificate of physical and mental fitness to drive trucks.

Please contact the driving licence authority responsible for your place of residence.

The application may be submitted at the earliest six months before the expiry of the previous driving licence.

If the application is made after the expiry of the previous driving licence, there will be no longer an extension, but a new driving licence will be issued. The fact that you have previously held a corresponding driving licence is no longer apparent from the new driving licence.

The processing time depends on the workload of the responsible driving licence authority.

The fee is based on the scale of charges for road transport measures in the respective version.

Regardless of whether it is a genuine renewal or a new issue (due to late application), a new driving licence will always be issued. Please remember to apply for your extension in good time.
