Persons eligible for election to the European elections

You can stand for election yourself in the European elections. This is linked, among other things, to your eligibility.

    Description

Under certain conditions, you can stand for election yourself as a candidate in the European elections. You must first be selectable for this.

You are eligible to be elected as a German citizen if you have reached the age of eighteen on election day. However, you are not eligible if you lose your right to vote or your eligibility due to a court decision or are not allowed to hold public office.

If you are a citizen of the Union, you are eligible if you have a place of residence or habitual residence in Germany. In addition, you must be at least 18 years old on election day. You are not eligible if you have been excluded from the right to vote in Germany or your country of origin or if you have been deprived of your eligibility due to a court decision. You are also not eligible if you are not allowed to hold public office in Germany on the basis of a court decision.

For the certificate of eligibility, the competent city or municipal administration issues a certificate of eligibility on request.
