Special reporting obligation in hospitals, homes and similar institutions Registration

If you are admitted or move into a hospital, home or similar institution, you must register with the registration authority under certain conditions.

If you are admitted to or move into a hospital, nursing home or other institution that serves to care for people in need of care or disabilities or for home education and are not already registered for an apartment within Germany, you must register as soon as the stay exceeds three months.

• Identity card and/or passport as proof of identity and to change housing details
• Landlord's confirmation or corresponding assignment characteristic

Some registration authorities offer forms on the Internet.

If the registration authority of your new place of residence has opened Internet access for registration, you can register for this access by submitting the required information and using a qualified electronic signature in accordance with the Signature Act.

You must register within two weeks as soon as your stay exceeds three months.

If you are unable to comply with the obligation to register in person, the head of the institution will inform you of your admission. You will be informed of this.
