State-certified food chemist, recognition

If, for example, you want to work in official food control or as a cross-check expert in Germany, you usually need recognition as a state-certified food chemist.

A written request must be submitted. The application must be accompanied by proof of the existence of the corresponding requirements in certified copies and, if necessary, translations in German.

• at least one year's professional experience in the official control of products within the meaning of the Food and Feed Code and tobacco products or equivalent control activity in a food establishment or laboratory
• Passing an aptitude test, if necessary, in which the scientific, food law and administrative knowledge and skills required for the exercise of the activity of a state-certified food chemist are proven, which have not been taught in the previous training.

You must submit the application for recognition in writing to the competent authority and sign it by hand. The application must contain the indication that you want to carry out the professional activity in Hesse. The required supporting documents must be attached to the application.

After successful completion of the recognition procedure, you will be sent a corresponding certificate with permission to use the professional title.

The competent authority should decide on recognition within four months of receipt of the complete application file.
