Pay wine tax (tax for the German Wine Fund)
Description
Owners or beneficial owners of vineyard areas listed in the vineyard register of the state of Hesse must pay an annual fee to the German Wine Fund (DWF).
The DWF is a self-help institution of the German wine industry. It promotes the quality and sales of German wines through joint, competition-neutral marketing measures at home and abroad.
It is financed exclusively by levies from the
- owners or
- beneficial owners of vineyard areas and
- Dealers.
The existing data of the vineyard register of the State of Hesse are used to collect the area-related contributions.

Required documents
According to § 4 AGeV, the application specified in Annex 1 of the AGeV is to be used. The application must be accompanied by an examination report and a sample of three bottles.

Costs
The fees are based on the administrative costs regulation for the portfolio of the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (VwKostO-MUELV). The following fees apply for issuing the verification number:
- up to 5.000 l: 105,00 Euro
- over 5.000 l: 190,00 Euro
Notes (specifics)
At least one bottle of each sample must be kept until two years have elapsed after the examination notice has been issued (§ 5 AGeV)
A copy of the examination results must be kept for five years by the institution that carried out the examination (§ 5 AGeV).
