If you sail on a seagoing vessel that is entitled to fly the federal flag, the shipowner will register you. For this purpose, you must provide the shipowner with the necessary information.
The obligation to register does not apply in both cases if you are registered for an apartment in Germany.

For inland waterway vessels, the registration authority of the municipality or town in which the ship's home port is situated. Other registration authorities or the water police may accept your registration, which will then forward it to the registration authority of the home port.
