Pawnbroking industry: Extension of the pledge realization period
Description
In the pawnbroking industry, pawnbrokers must liquidate the pawn no later than 6 months after the authorization to liquidate has expired.
Upon application by the pawnbroker to the competent authority, the deadline may be extended if there is good cause.
The deadline shall be extended for as long as the good cause is likely to exist. In the event of prevention by a judicial or official measure, the time limit shall be extended until the realization of other pledges following the lifting of the measure.

Prerequisites
Good cause exists if:
- there is a conflict between the pawnbroker's obligations under the Pawnbroker Ordinance and other legal provisions,
- a postponement of the realization is in the interest of the pledger, e.g. if, for seasonal reasons, a more favorable result can be achieved for the pledger in a later realization despite the interest and costs that continue to accrue,
- if a legal dispute is pending regarding the ownership of the pledge or the creation of the lien.
