Long-term care insurance: compulsory insurance for insured persons in private health insurance
Description
In Germany, every resident must have health and long-term care insurance.
If you are insured with a private health insurance company, you must take out compulsory private long-term care insurance. The contract may also be concluded with another private insurance company. The right to vote must be exercised within 6 months.

Prerequisites
Compulsory insurance in private long-term care insurance exists for
- all persons with private health insurance,
- civil servants and persons treated as such,
- persons entitled to health care,
- Members of the Postbeamtenkrankenkasse and the health care of the Bundesbahn.

§§ 23, 25 and 121 of Book XI of the Social Code (SGB XI)
Notes (specifics)
Under Paragraph 121(1) of SGB XI, any person who, intentionally or recklessly, acts unlawfully
- does not comply with the insurance obligation to conclude or maintain the private long-term care insurance contract pursuant to § 23.1 sentences 1 and 2 SGB XI or § 23.4 SGB XI or the obligation to maintain the private long-term care insurance contract pursuant to § 22.1 sentence 2 SGB XI, and
- is in arrears with the payment of 6 monthly premiums for private long-term care insurance.
The administrative offence can be punished with a fine of up to 2,500.00 euros.
