Registration and inspection of the list of monuments

The cultural monuments protected under the Monument Protection Act are recorded in a list of monuments, which serves as a working aid for all parties involved. The inclusion of a cultural monument in this list has declaratory significance, i.e. a cultural monument is already protected before it is included in this list, because it meets the definitions established by the Denkmaklschutzgesetz.

Listed in the list of monuments:

• Short name of the cultural monument
• Layer
• characteristic features (why the object is worthy of a monument)

The Hessian list of monuments is under construction. You can search which areas have already been fully prepared with geo-related specialist data on the website "Cultural monuments in Hesse". Further areas will be gradually added.

The Landesamt für Denkmalpflege Hessen is responsible for the inventory of all Hessian monuments.

A cultural monument is officially included in the list of monuments. Also, anyone (e.g. owner) can submit a corresponding application. The object must have the characteristics defined in the Monument Protection Act.

In this procedure, the owner is informed when an entry is made and is informed of the rights and obligations inherent in the possession of a cultural monument.

No fees are charged for the registration and inspection of the monument list.
