Mortuary passport

A mortuary passport is required for the transfer of a corpse abroad.

A mortuary passport is also required for the transfer of a corpse from Hesse to other federal states if their legislation requires a mortuary passport for the transport or burial of the body.

To the city or municipal administration of the place of death.

• Death certificate or certificate of deferral of certification
• Morgue certificate
• Certificate of proper coffin by the undertaker
• Certificate from the undertaker that the transport is carried out by a vehicle intended for the transport of corpses.
• if applicable, written power of attorney for the commissioned undertaker
• in the case of indications of a non-natural death or the body of an unknown person:
  Authorisation from the public prosecutor's office or the district court
• medical certificate from the health authority, according to which there are no objections to the transport of the corpse, if the deceased suffered from a notifiable disease according to the Infection Protection Act

The mortuary passport must be requested by the relative responsible for the funeral or by the undertaker responsible for the transport.
 

There is a fee of 28.00 euros for the issuance of a mortuary passport.
