Pharmacies Emergency Service

Medicines are often needed outside normal business hours, e.g. at night or on Sundays and public holidays.

In principle, all pharmacies are obliged to participate in the emergency service in order to ensure the supply of medicines to the population 24 hours and 7 days. The Landesapothekerkammer Hessen is the competent authority in Hesse for the organisation of this service.

On the website, the Landesapothekerkammer provides an information service under the generic term "emergency pharmacies ready for emergency service" to find the pharmacies on duty.

The list of pharmacies ready for emergency service is also published in the local press.

Information on the pharmacy emergency service in Hesse can be obtained from the competent authority, the Landesapothekerkammer Hessen.

In the event that a pharmacy ready for emergency service cannot be reached or does not provide the emergency service, it is possible to submit a complaint to the State Chamber of Pharmacists in writing, stating the exact pharmacy, the day and the time. The failure to provide the emergency service constitutes an administrative offence pursuant to §§ 23 Abs. 1, 36 Nr. 2 k) Apothekenbetriebsordnung.
