Receive a home help and child care costs in the statutory accident insurance
To enable you to continue running your household or looking after your children after an insured event, the statutory accident insurance will support you financially or in organizing help under certain conditions.
Description
The statutory accident insurance supports you after
- an accident at work
- a commuting accident and
- the onset of an occupational disease.
Your employer's liability insurance association or accident insurance fund will cover any costs incurred for housekeeping or childcare.
The following costs, for example, are covered by your employer's liability insurance association or accident insurance fund:
- reasonable costs for a self-procured domestic help (service to continue the household and travel costs)
- actual travel costs incurred and, if applicable, actual loss of earnings for relatives and in-laws up to the 2nd degree, e.g:
- Grandparents, parents, siblings, children, grandchildren
- Parents-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law
- Costs for taking the child with you
- Costs for alternative accommodation for the child
- Costs for childcare
The household help's tasks include, for example
- Shopping and preparing meals
- Care of clothing
- Care of the living quarters and
- looking after the children.
If domestic help is provided by a neighbor, friend or distant relative, your employer's liability insurance association or accident insurance fund will regularly reimburse a daily allowance of up to 2.5 percent of the monthly reference value. The amount is adjusted annually and from 01.01.2025 will be EUR 94 per day or EUR 11.75 per hour. If the domestic help is provided by professional replacement staff, higher costs can be covered in individual cases in accordance with the usual local remuneration rates.
Instead of domestic help, the necessary costs for childcare are also covered up to a maximum amount. Since 01.01.2025, this has been 200 euros per month.

Prerequisites
You have suffered an accident at work or a commuting accident or a recognized occupational disease and
- are taking part in a medical rehabilitation benefit, a benefit for participation in working life or a benefit for social participation,
- you or another person living in your household cannot continue to run the household,
- there is a child living in your household who is under the age of 12 or who has a disability and is dependent on assistance,
- Your child requires care.

Procedure
You can apply for the assumption of costs for household help and childcare online or by post.
Online service:
- Call up the online service.
- You will be guided through the procedure on the accident insurance service portal.
- You can log in.
- If you would like to receive the reply from your Berufsgenossenschaft or accident insurance fund in the mailbox of your BundID account or My Company Account, you must have an account and authenticate yourself.
- If you would like to receive the reply by post, you can continue without registering.
- Select your responsible employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund or find them using the industry search.
- Upload the required documents.
- Complete the online form and send it off.
- Your notification will be automatically forwarded to your employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund.
- You will receive feedback via the desired channel.
Online service of your employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund:
- If you have access to the portal of your employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund, you can also submit the notification electronically there if necessary.
Message by post:
- Send an informal letter to your employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund.
- Make sure you provide the required information and enclose the necessary documents.
