Apply for funding for a new project or a continuation project from the "Political Foundations" funding program

If you are planning socio-political projects with your political foundation that are of significant developmental interest to Germany, you can apply for funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Under certain conditions and upon application, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) will support your social policy projects in developing and transition countries as well as projects in which the Federal Government has a significant development policy interest.

You will receive funding for the following measures in particular:

• Promoting pluralistic dialog on social models based on democracy and social justice
• Assistance in the development of social interest groups and the promotion of civil society activities
• Supporting civil society and state institutions in the development and expansion of democratic and constitutional structures and procedures
• Promoting the equal integration of women in political, economic and social decision-making processes
• Advice on economic, social and environmental reforms
• Supporting the development and expansion of market economy mechanisms and systems
• Promoting socially just and ecologically sustainable economic development
• Promoting the observance and implementation of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and other fundamental international conventions
• Supporting political education for multipliers and for interested young people and adults
• Promotion of decentralized pluralistic media and communication systems
• Promoting national, regional and international dialog, particularly in the areas of political, economic, social and ecological cooperation
• Promoting peace and development in conflict and post-conflict countries
• In the case of special development policy interest, promotion of dialog measures and expert discussions also outside the cooperation countries to support the above-mentioned measures

If the BMZ approves your application, you will receive a grant for your project, which is generally granted as full funding for project support.

• You are submitting an application for a German political foundation funded by the BMZ by means of a grant notification.
• Your project is in line with Germany's development policy objectives and the international human rights conventions.
• You support suitable non-governmental and governmental organizations within and, in individual cases, outside the cooperation countries or the establishment of corresponding institutions and structures.
• They take into account the socio-cultural, economic and ecological characteristics of the respective cooperation country as well as the promotion of initiative and personal responsibility from the cooperation country.
• They conclude contracts under private law when forwarding grants to partner organizations for the implementation of measures in the cooperation countries.
• They forward funds exclusively as project funding.
• Only partner organizations that have been named in your funding application and confirmed by the approval notice are eligible as final recipients.

Action before the administrative court

You can apply for project funding online or by post to the BMZ.

• Call up the online form. This will guide you step by step through the required information.
• Upload the required documents and submit the application online. Alternatively, you can print out the completed online application and send it to the BMZ by post together with the documents.
• The BMZ will check your application and contact you if anything is unclear or information is missing.

The BMZ will inform you in a notification whether you will receive project funding.
