If the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) has allocated you frequencies in digital railroad mobile radio and you want to put them into operation, you must first have the site-specific technical parameters determined. You apply to the BNetzA for the determination. The BNetzA checks whether you can use the frequencies efficiently and whether other uses at home and abroad are not disturbed. You can only put the radio stations into operation once the parameters have been set.
To apply for the parameters to be set, you need a frequency allocation. You can find details on the location-related technical parameters and application requirements in the allocation notice.

You can apply for frequency assignment and the determination of frequency usage parameters online or by e-mail.
Apply for determination online:
- Go to the website of the federal portal and open the online application.
- You will need a user name and password to log in.
- The online application will guide you step by step through the necessary information.
- Upload the required documents as a file and submit the application online.
Apply for fixing by e-mail:
- Create an electronic application according to the data format of the Federal Network Agency. Details on the so-called operator exchange format can be found in your frequency allocation decision. Send the application to the Federal Network Agency by e-mail.
- The Federal Network Agency will check your application and contact you with any queries or missing information.
- The Federal Network Agency will send you by post
- the frequency allocation certificate or the decision on the frequency usage parameters and
- the notification of fees.
- You pay the fee.

Period of validity: 1 to 10 years (The frequency allocation certificate and parameter determinations are limited in time. The period of validity can be found in the respective notification.)

Costs
Fee for frequency assignment:
- A fee is charged for frequency assignment and, under certain circumstances, for refusal of assignment. The amount of the fee is determined in accordance with the Special Fee Ordinance of the Federal Network Agency for Frequency Allocations.
Annual fee for frequency assignment:
- As the holder of a frequency assignment, you pay annual fees in addition to the frequency assignment fee. The amount of these contributions is determined in accordance with the Frequency Protection Contribution Ordinance. The basis for determining the contribution rates is the actual expenses and costs eligible for contributions incurred in a calendar year. These can only be determined retrospectively. A contribution forecast is not possible.
