Transmitting data to the Federal Statistical Office as a wholesale company

If you are requested to do so by the Federal Statistical Office, you must submit certain data as a wholesale company.

The Federal Statistical Office (StBA) continuously collects and analyzes data on the German economy and other areas of society. The StBA prepares the data and makes the results available. These statistics serve as a basis for policy-making, among other things.

For this reason, companies are obliged to provide information. Not all companies are surveyed, but companies are selected at random using scientific methods. If your company receives a corresponding request from the StBA, you must provide the requested data. The StBA requests certain data monthly, others annually.

This applies to companies in the wholesale sector with the exception of motor vehicles and motorcycles.

The data that you must submit on a monthly basis may include the following:

• Turnover
• Number of persons employed
• Federal states in which your company has branches.

The data you must submit annually may include the following:

• Main economic activity carried out
• Number of branches
• Number of active persons
• turnover
• taxes
• Subsidies
• Investments
• Expenses

The obligation to provide information to the Federal Statistical Office applies to companies in the wholesale trade sector. The wholesale of motor vehicles and motorcycles is excluded.

If your company has been selected, please submit your data as follows:

• You will receive a letter asking you to submit your data to the Federal Statistical Office. The information required in your case can be found in the online form provided.
• Log in to the survey portal of the Federal and State Statistical Offices. Follow the relevant instructions to use the reporting procedure that is right for you:
  • IDEV: Submit the data via electronic online forms. An automatic completion aid will support you.
    • You have received the access data for IDEV with the letter.
  • Only possible for monthly data transmission: eSTATISTIK.CORE: Automatically compile the data electronically in your respective software system, provided your software company has provided the corresponding functionalities. As a rule, you can check the data on screen before submitting it. Then transmit the data to the Federal Statistical Office using the software provided.
    • You may have to register once with your software company to use eSTATISTIK.CORE.
• The Federal Statistical Office may ask you to complete your data.
• You will receive confirmation that your data has been transmitted.

The Federal Statistical Office will immediately confirm the transmission of your data.

You will need an average of 90 minutes to process the online form for the annual statistics in the retail sector.

You will need an average of 19 minutes to process the online form for monthly statistics in wholesale.
