Have the flight radio examination recognized as a flight radio certificate
If you have passed a flight radio examination in Germany, you can have this recognized as a flight radio certificate. To do this, submit an application to the Federal Network Agency.
Description
In order to carry out aeronautical radio services on the ground and in the air, you generally require an aeronautical radio certificate from the Federal Network Agency.
You can apply to the Federal Network Agency for recognition as an aeronautical radio certificate if you
- have already passed an aircraft pilot or instrument rating examination in Germany and have therefore also passed a flight radio examination or
- are the holder of a certificate from the German Armed Forces confirming possession of a military aircraft pilot's license, military aircraft crew license or a military license for air traffic control service or
- are the holder of a license for the air traffic control service.
Please note that in Germany you can only hold one aircraft radio certificate at a time. For example, if you apply for a radio operator's certificate that entitles you to radiotelephony under visual and instrument flight rules, you must return your previous certificate, which only entitles you to radiotelephony under visual flight rules. You then enclose the original certificate with your application or, if applying online, a digital copy. Following the online application, you must return the original certificate by post to the Federal Network Agency.
The following aircraft radio certificates exist in Germany:
- Restricted radiotelephony certificate II for the aeronautical radio service (BZF II); authorizes radiotelephony within the Federal Republic of Germany in German according to visual flight rules
- Radiotelephony certificate I with restricted validity for the aeronautical radio service (BZF I); authorizes radiotelephony in German and English according to visual flight rules
- Restricted radiotelephony certificate E for the aeronautical radio service (BZF E); authorizes radiotelephony in English according to visual flight rules
- General radiotelephony certificate for the aeronautical radio service (AZF); authorizes radiotelephony in German and English according to visual and instrument flight rules
- General radiotelephony certificate E for the aeronautical radio service (AZF E); authorizes radiotelephony in English according to visual and instrument flight rules.
