Report radio interference

If you suspect radio interference, you can report it to the test and measurement service of the Federal Network Agency.

The Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) is an upper German federal authority in the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK). The BNetzA's test and measurement service advises you on the cause of radio interference or electromagnetic incompatibility.

If you report radio interference and the BNetzA also suspects this on the basis of the information you provide, the Test and Measurement Service will determine the source of the interference on site using special measurement and direction-finding vehicles and initiate corrective measures.

Exclude equipment defects or operating errors before reporting them

You do not need any prior technical knowledge to report radio interference.

However, before contacting the radio trouble desk, please check that your trouble is not one of the following common causes:

• a defect in your equipment or an operating error,
• an insufficient radio supply,
• an insufficient antenna

or

• a defective antenna connection cable.

In these cases, the radio fault acceptance service is not the right contact.

In the event of mobile communications, telephone or Internet faults, first contact your telephone, mobile communications or Internet provider. In this way, you can rule out the possibility that there is a fault with your telecommunications provider.

Triggers for radio interference

In everyday life, interference signals can be noticeable as, for example:

• pattering on the radio,
• frozen TV pictures on the TV screen,
• equipment interference, or
• Interference with Internet reception.

Radio interference can be caused by, for example:

• Defects or aging effects in electrical devices and radio equipment,
• improperly installed satellite equipment,
• equipment whose operation is not authorized in the European Union.

Therefore, it is important that your equipment bears a CE mark and is operated in accordance with its intended use.

Radio interference can also endanger public safety if it affects the radio communications of emergency services, police, fire department or in air traffic.

You can report radio interference online or by telephone to the Radio Interference Acceptance Service of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA).

Online:

• First, please check that there is no technical defect in the device or an operating error.
• If you still suspect radio interference, go to the website of the federal portal "verwaltung.bund.de" and open the online form for reporting radio interference. This will guide you step by step through the necessary information. There you can also enter information about the times of the interference.
• If you have recordings documenting the interference, such as photos of the disturbed TV picture or sound recordings of the disturbed radio reception, you can upload them as a file.
• The BNetzA will then contact you if there is interference and will usually arrange an on-site appointment to determine the source of the interference.

• First, please check that there is no technical defect in the equipment or an operating error.

• Please describe as precisely as possible on the phone
• what is being disturbed,
• what is the effect of the interference
• how often and at what times does the interference occur?
• The employees of the BNetzA's Radio Interference Reception Service will advise you and discuss the further course of action with you.
