Apply for medical rehabilitation benefits from the Agricultural Old-Age Insurance Fund

You can receive medical rehabilitation benefits from the Landwirtschaftliche Alterskasse (LAK). You must meet certain benefit requirements for this.

According to the principle of "rehabilitation before retirement", you can apply for medical rehabilitation benefits from the Landwirtschaftliche Alterskasse (LAK). You can claim these benefits for chronic illnesses or after operations, among other things.

The rehabilitation benefits are intended to enable you to carry out your job again in a self-determined, equal and independent manner and to be able to actively participate in life again. The rehabilitation measure is intended to improve your health or prevent it from deteriorating. This applies in particular if your earning capacity is significantly at risk or already reduced due to illness or disability.

If you already have reduced earning capacity, medical rehabilitation is aimed at your permanent reintegration into working life.

You have the option of receiving medical rehabilitation either on an outpatient or inpatient basis.

Even if you are already receiving a reduced earning capacity pension, you can consider medical rehabilitation benefits if it is likely to restore your earning capacity.

You can apply for exemption from the co-payment if the co-payment would place an unreasonable burden on you due to your income situation.

The Landwirtschaftliche Alterskasse (LAK) will pay your rehabilitation benefit if at least one of the following points applies to you:

• You have paid contributions to the LAK for 15 years.
• You have paid compulsory contributions to the LAK for 6 calendar months in the last 2 years before submitting your application.
• You have taken up insured employment or self-employment within 2 years of completing your training and have continued to do so up to the date of application or
• You have been incapacitated for work or unemployed following such employment or activity up to the date of application.
• You are already or will become less able to work in the foreseeable future, provided that the waiting period of 5 years has been fulfilled.
• You receive a pension due to reduced earning capacity or
• You receive a widow's or widower's pension due to reduced earning capacity.

The rehabilitation measure applied for should be suitable for this purpose:

• Strengthen your health and
• improve your reduced earning capacity or
• avoid a deterioration.

The following criteria in particular are examined in this context:

• Need for rehabilitation:
  • Your ability to work is impaired and cannot be restored with individual measures such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
• Ability to rehabilitate:
  • You are able to bear weight to such an extent that necessary treatments can be carried out.
• Positive rehabilitation prognosis:
  • You are likely to be able to achieve individual rehabilitation goals according to medical assessment.

In addition, there must be no reason for exclusion, such as receipt of an old-age pension from the old-age insurance fund.

You can apply for a medical rehabilitation benefit from the Agricultural Pension Fund (LAK) online or in writing via the service portal of the Social Insurance for Agriculture, Forestry and Horticulture (SVLFG).

If you would like to apply for a benefit online:

• Go to the SVLFG service portal.
• If necessary, register on the service portal.
• Download the medical report and the application form.
• Present the medical report to the doctor treating you.
• Complete the web form and upload the necessary supporting documents via the mailbox function.
• Add the medical report.
• Once your details have been confirmed, your data will be transmitted online to the SVLFG.
• The SVLFG will check your application.
• You will receive the decision on your application by post.

If you would like to apply for a benefit in writing:

• Go to the SVLFG service portal.
• Download the forms.
• Submit the medical report to the doctor treating you.
• Send the completed documents to the SVLFG.
• You will receive the decision on your application by post.
• You can also submit the application via your attending physician or the hospital.

No costs are incurred.

The costs of the rehabilitation service are settled directly with the rehabilitation facility by the Landwirtschaftliche Alterskasse (LAK).

If you have reached the age of 18, you must make an additional payment towards the costs. In the case of inpatient rehabilitation, you pay an additional EUR 10 per day for a maximum of 42 days. In the case of follow-up treatment, the co-payment is limited to a maximum of 14 days.

There is no co-payment for outpatient medical rehabilitation measures and children's rehabilitation.

You can be exempted from the co-payment on application if you would be unreasonably burdened by the co-payment due to your income situation.
