Notify the Artists' Social Security Fund of a change in your professional situation

If you are not only self-employed as an artist or journalist but also carry out other activities or receive social benefits, you must report this to the Künstlersozialkasse.

As a person who is self-employed in an artistic or journalistic capacity, you are generally subject to statutory pension, health and long-term care insurance via the artists' social insurance scheme.
However, this only applies if there are no specific exceptions or if you are primarily insured elsewhere. If there is a fundamental change in your professional situation, you must inform the Künstlersozialkasse immediately.
Examples of professional circumstances that may affect your existing obligation to be insured with the Künstlersozialkasse:

• dependent employment
• receipt of unemployment benefit
• receipt of citizen's allowance
• Other self-employed activities or business income
• shareholdings in companies
• Activities in agriculture
• commencement of studies
• Federal voluntary service or military service
• civil servant status

• In principle, you must be subject to compulsory social insurance for artists or be entitled to a subsidy.
• You also have, for example
  • taken up, terminated or extended dependent employment,
  • received an approval, extension, suspension or termination of unemployment benefit or citizen's allowance,
  • started or ended another self-employed activity,
  • started or ended work as a farmer or craftsman,
  • enrolled or exmatriculated as a student,
  • taken up or terminated employment as a civil servant,
  • started a prison sentence,
  • started or ended an activity as part of the Federal Voluntary Service or military service.

You can inform the Künstlersozialkasse online or by post about your career change.

Online notification:

• Call up the online form on the federal portal verwaltung.bund.de. This will guide you step by step through the necessary information, which you can enter electronically.
• Note: You will need your electronic ID document to register for the online form.
• It will take you about 15 minutes to complete the online form.
• First enter your personal details, including your insurance number. You will find this in the top right-hand corner of the letter from the Künstlersozialkasse.
• On the next page, select your request.
• When you make your selection, you will receive general information about your request.
• You then provide more detailed information about your request and upload any required documents.

Notification by post:

• If you wish to notify the start or end of dependent employment, fill out the PDF form "Notification of the start/end of dependent employment" on the website of the Künstlersozialkasse.
• If you wish to notify the receipt or end of unemployment benefit or citizen's allowance, please complete the PDF form "Notification of receipt / end of receipt of unemployment benefit I, and II or citizen's allowance" on the website of the Künstlersozialkasse.
• If you wish to notify the commencement or termination of a course of study, please complete the PDF form "Notification of commencement / termination of a course of study" on the website of the Künstlersozialkasse.
• If you wish to report the commencement of a self-employed non-artistic or non-publishing activity or the registration of such a business, please complete the PDF form "Notification of the commencement of a self-employed non-artistic/non-publishing activity" on the website of the Künstlersozialkasse.
• If you wish to report the cessation of a self-employed non-artistic or non-publishing activity or the deregistration of such a business, please complete the PDF form "Notification of the cessation of a self-employed non-artistic/non-publishing activity or the deregistration of the business" on the website of the Künstlersozialkasse.
• Please inform us informally of all other changes to your professional situation.
• Please always include your insurance number. You will find this in the top right-hand corner of the letter from the Künstlersozialkasse.
• Sign your informal notification or the printed PDF form and enclose the required documents.
• Send everything together to the Künstlersozialkasse.
