Customs control - import bans

Despite facilitations in the clearance of goods in personal luggage, you cannot carry all goods and products without restrictions in cross-border travel. The customs authorities monitor import restrictions and prohibitions and carry out appropriate checks.

There are prohibitions and restrictions on private imports in the following areas in particular:

• Protection of species;
• medicines;
• narcotics;
• fireworks;
• dangerous dogs (fighting dogs);
• foodstuffs;
• counterfeit goods (product piracy);
• sanitary plant protection (e.g. potatoes);
• writings with unconstitutional content;
• protection of public order (e.g. pornography);
• animal health (domestic animals, animal products);
• Weapons and ammunition (sporting weapons, hunting weapons, prohibited articles).
