Transport associations
In Hesse, the transport associations are organisations of the municipal authorities. The transport companies provide the services on a contractual basis in accordance with the specifications of the transport associations. The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund, the Nordhessischer Verkehrsverbund and the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar cover the entire area of the federal state of Hesse.
- The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) is one of the largest transport associations in Germany with an area of 14,000 km2, over 10,000 stops and 720 million customers transported per year.
- With an area of 7,000 km2 and a route length of over 7,000 km, the North Hesse Transport Association (NVV) serves the northern part of Hesse and ensures mobility in rural regions in particular with its transport services.
- The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar (VRN) ensures public transport along the Bergstrasse and is therefore an important addition to the southern Hesse region.
