Mobility Cluster North Hesse

In North Hesse, the cluster includes not only logistics in the narrower sense, but also the mobility industry as a whole. This is particularly well represented in the region: Kassel is a traditional location for railway construction; in addition, numerous companies from the automotive industry or their suppliers can be found in North Hesse. The strength of the location is confirmed by various studies - for example, the index value that the region achieved in the "Prognos Zukunftsatlas 2006" in the logistics sector is at a level that was otherwise only calculated in conurbations such as Frankfurt or Munich.

What is typical for North Hesse in the logistics sector, however, is that numerous distribution and transhipment centres have been established there in recent years. These centres serve the whole of Germany from North Hesse or distribute goods throughout Europe. North Hesse utilises its location advantage here: Thanks to the centrality of the location and the good transport connections in all directions, goods can be dispatched or transshipped late in the evening and reliably reach their recipients the next day - no other region in Germany can dispatch or transship goods as late as North Hesse. It is precisely for this reason that the region between Kassel and Fulda, with Bad Hersfeld at its centre, is also the location where the central transhipment facilities, the "hubs", of all German general cargo cooperatives are located. These co-operations bring together medium-sized freight forwarders who jointly operate overland transport networks: The haulage companies drive all the goods to be shipped to their hubs in the evening, where they are distributed to the destination routes - when the vehicle sets off on its return journey, it has loaded the goods of all the cooperation partners for its home area. When the vehicle arrives at its home base in the early hours of the morning, the goods are then distributed. Concepts such as these also allow small and medium-sized haulage companies to offer comprehensive overland transport networks, while at the same time making optimum use of existing capacities and avoiding empty runs.

North Hesse benefits from the good availability of space, comparatively low land prices and the good availability of qualified personnel. This is ensured, among other things, by the corresponding offers at the University of Kassel, Fulda University of Applied Sciences and the Bad Hersfeld University of Cooperative Education, which offer specialised courses in the field of logistics.

The Mobility Cluster North Hesse is supported by the Regional Management North Hesse and the MoWin.net association. In addition to regular cluster meetings, a "Logistics Day" and a "Logistics Night" are organised every two years, for example, which are now firmly established in the calendars of logistics experts.
