BAföG and AFBG application

Digital. Fast. Secure. Free of charge.

You can complete your application for benefits under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) or the Upgrading Training Assistance Act (AFBG, so-called "Aufstiegs-BAföG") securely and free of charge online. This also applies to the subsequent submission of documents. You can find more information here.

If possible, only use the digital and secure communication channel via the online application options offered.

Important: Submitting your application or documents once is sufficient. Please do not submit them more than once or additionally via different communication channels.

If you have any questions regarding the eligibility of your training for funding, your application or the notification, please always contact your responsible training grant office. 1. BAföG application for students, for study start-up aid and for pupils

Please use our "BAföG Digital"online application to submit your application and any missing documents . Students under the age of 25 can also submit their application for study start-up aid there when starting their studies for the first time.

All other necessary information can be found directly there.

BAföG training centre directory

You have the option of searching a database in each federal state for training centres and training courses offered there for which BAföG can be applied for. If you have any questions about eligibility for funding or about training centres or training courses that are not included, please contact the office responsible for you. You can also print out the search result from the Hessian database or download and save it (as a PDF or CSV file). Under "Notes" you will find preliminary remarks and explanations on the directory and an overview of the abbreviations used.

2nd AFBG application for upgrading training ("Aufstiegs-BAföG")

For the digital application and submission of missing documents, please use our online application "AFBG Digital".

3. apps "BAföG Digital" / "AFBG Digital"

Our apps "BAföG Digital" and "AFBG Digital" are available for the Android and iOS operating systems (in the respective app stores). The functions of the apps can only be used in full if you have previously submitted an application via "BAföG Digital" or "AFBG Digital".

The apps offer you the following options, for example

• The responsible office and its contact details can be determined.
• You can contact the office directly from the app (by phone call or email).
• The app contains a "navigation function". This allows you to calculate and display the route to the office directly.
• As soon as the status of your application processing changes, you will automatically receive a push notification. You can activate or deactivate this function at any time.
• Documents can be photographed with your smartphone or tablet and sent directly and securely to the relevant office. They are automatically assigned to your file without any loss of time.
• The "BAföG Digital" app contains a BAföG calculator that you can use to roughly determine your potential entitlement in advance without any obligation.
