Energy efficiency

Advancing energy efficiency, increasing heat efficiency to make Hesse climate-neutral by 2045

The best energy is the energy we don't use in the first place. This applies in particular to the operation of buildings, which accounts for around 35 per cent of final energy consumption and around 30 per cent of CO₂ emissions in Germany.

Municipalities

With the municipal guideline (energy), the State of Hesse supports municipalities, their associations and municipal companies in constructing energy-saving new buildings and modernising schools, community centres, kindergartens, sports halls, outdoor swimming pools and other public buildings. The measures are intended to ensure that the energy required for heating in particular is reduced and that more and more can be provided from renewable energy sources. Other funding priorities include LED street lighting and building automation.

The obligation for municipal heat planning in the State of Hesse is regulated by the
Hessian Energy Act (HEG) on the one hand and the nationwide Heat Planning Act (WPG) on the other. A municipal heat plan forms a strategic basis for achieving a climate-neutral heat supply. It identifies heat sources and heat requirements and is therefore a good aid for local authorities when making decisions on future heat supply.

Municipal energy management should determine the energy strategy and orientation of a municipality across all buildings and reduce energy consumption in municipal properties.

Citizens

Energy-efficient investments also pay off twice over for Hessian citizens: They ensure a more climate-friendly and secure energy supply in the future and help to keep energy costs affordable. The subsidy advisory service of the LandesEnergieAgentur Hesse GmbH (LEA)provides information on the entire range of different subsidy options for a new heating system or better windows, for example.

Companies

Investments in energy efficiency increase the profitability of companies' processes and can, for example, increase the value of company buildings, protect the environment and climate and make companies more competitive. The LEA supports and advises
companies withfree energy impulse consultations and subsidy advice to help them find their way to climate neutrality. The Ecocockpit for greenhouse gas balancing enables companies to determine their own emissions and recognise climate protection measures and thus accelerate economically viable options for action.

The brochure "55 efficiency tips for production and administration"provides valuable tips on how companies can optimise processes and thus save energy. Local authorities, companies and their associations can obtain advice from the LEA on the development of energy-efficient commercial and industrial areas.

Cooling

Summer heat insulation presentsus all with further challenges. Energy-efficient construction and modernisation is the first choice here: not only to reduce heating energy requirements, but also to ensure more comfortable temperatures and less cooling requirements in summer.

The brochure "Summer Thermal Insulation"provides information on the various aspects and possibilities of summer thermal insulation in companies and local authorities.

Serial refurbishment as an innovative technology

The Hessian initiative for serial refurbishmentaims to simplify and accelerate the modernisation of apartment buildings by using industrially prefabricated façade and roof elements. Both owners and tenants benefit from short construction times, high energy standards and resource-saving production.

Monument protection

Monument protection and preservation require a special approach with regard to energy modernisation. The LEA provides information on counselling services and subsidies and gives you practical tips on the subject of
conservation and energy modernisation.

Further targeted information is provided by the
energy-saving information from the LandesEnergieAgentur Hesse GmbH (LEA) on topics such as "modernising the building envelope", "sustainable building technology", "interior insulation" and "correct ventilation".

Building

Building Energy Act (GEG)

This regulates both the construction and installation requirements for buildings and the use of renewable energies for heating purposes.
