Ambitious climate protection targets set
The state of Hesse has set itself the target of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2020 compared to 1990 levels and by 40 per cent by 2025. In 2019, the decision was made to set a further interim target of reducing emissions by 55% by 2030. Hesse wants to become climate-neutral by 2050 at the latest and is aiming for a reduction of at least 90 per cent.
Hesse will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2020 compared to 1990 levels and by 40 per cent by 2025.
Specific measures in the Integrated Climate Protection Plan 2025
The Integrated Climate Protection Plan Hesse 2025 (IKSP) underpins these targets with 140 specific measures for climate protection and climate change adaptation. Their implementation was approved by the cabinet on 13 March 2017.
Of the 140 measures, 102 measures are already being implemented in 2020 and 9 measures have already been successfully completed. Further development of the IKSP is to begin in 2021. The implementation of the IKSP has been supported since May 2018 as part of the climate protection campaign "Climate protection starts here. With me." campaign.
Hesse is one of the strongest economic regions in Germany and Europe. With regard to Frankfurt Airport and as a transit state for national and international transport, we are particularly challenged. This is why Hesse is developing its own climate protection plan, which not only takes into account climate protection, but also adaptation to the consequences of climate change.
