One of the tasks of building regulations is to create framework conditions that do justice to developments in society. Homes and the living environment should be planned in such a way that they are suitable for people with a wide range of conditions. All publicly accessible buildings, facilities and means of transport must be usable and accessible without assistance as far as possible. This means that the universal building approach also applies to urban structures and transport infrastructure.

In the Hessian Building Code, the requirements for universal building are regulated in particular in Sections 43 and 46 with requirements for accessibility. The link on the right will take you to the Hessian Building Code and the other building regulations.

The legal framework is presented in the brochure "Barrier-free - Universal Building".

You can find the brochure under the heading Universal barrier-free building.
