Agri-environmental measures

The Hessian Programme for Agri-environmental and Landscape Management Measures - HALM for short - serves to promote particularly sustainable land management in Hesse. The support measures are intended to contribute to the fulfilment of objectives in the areas of biodiversity, water, soil and climate protection as well as the preservation of the cultural landscape. Farmers receive financial compensation for additional costs or foregone yields as a result of particularly environmentally friendly land management.

Funding programmes

The European Union, the federal government and the state of Hesse promote agriculture and forestry and support rural areas in Hesse.

The state government promotes the development of sustainable, rural and GMO-free agriculture, which contributes to the preservation and development of liveable rural areas. The state government therefore supports in particular animal and species-appropriate forms of husbandry, particularly environmentally friendly cultivation methods and the preservation of biodiversity in the agricultural landscape through a wide range of funding programmes. Another focus is rural development, including through local and regional projects, promoting village renewal and broadband expansion in rural areas to ensure quality of life in rural communities. However, horticulture, viticulture and forestry measures also receive support.

New social expectations with regard to environmental protection and animal welfare must also be taken into account.

What is subsidised? Who is supported? How is funding provided? All these questions are answered in detail on the pages of the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture.
