Apply for a change of school type to secondary school

If your child attends a grammar school and would like to transfer to a Realschule plus, this is possible under certain conditions.

The voluntary change of your child from a Gymnasium to a Realschule plus in grades 7 to 9 is generally possible at the end of each school semester, in special cases also at a different time. In grade 10, a transfer is only possible in special cases and only at the end of the school semester.

Voluntary transfer from a Gymnasium to a Realschule plus is possible without any special requirements.

If admission is refused, an appeal procedure is permissible.

Enrollment at the Realschule plus is possible at any time. Your child is entitled to be admitted to a Realschule plus that is accessible from your place of residence. This does not have to be the Realschule plus of your choice, as the admission capacities of the Realschulen plus must be taken into account. The school management decides which grade level, class and courses your child can be admitted to.

The transfer to the Realschule plus usually takes place at the beginning of each semester. As a rule, after six weeks, the class conference decides whether the pupil's performance to date justifies the pupil remaining in the grade level and courses they are provisionally attending.

As it is usually only possible to change to the two school semesters, you should register at the Realschule plus well in advance.

The admission decision is usually made within a few days.
