Dangerous wild animals: exemption from the ban on keeping

    Description

In Hesse, the non-commercial keeping of a dangerous animal of a wild species is prohibited.

Dangerous animals are those which, when fully grown, can significantly injure humans through physical strength, poisons or behaviour and are generally dangerous in their nature regardless of individual characteristics (e.g. predators, poisonous snakes, reptiles, amphibians, poisonous spiders and scorpions).

The competent authority, i.e. the respective regional council, may grant exceptions to the prohibition upon request if the keeper proves a legitimate interest in keeping the farm. A legitimate interest can be assumed for the purpose of science or research or for comparable purposes.
