Special use permit on public roads and squares

If a citizen wants to use public roads differently than planned by the carrier of the road construction burden or deviates from road traffic regulations, this constitutes a special use that is subject to permission and charges.

Special uses of a commercial nature are, for example:

• Sales carts/stalls
• Goods display points in front of the company's own shops
• Information booths
• Advertising displays/billboards
• Street café (setting up tables/chairs)
• Kickstand
• Posters

Content of the permit
The special use permit is usually granted for a limited period or on revocation subject to change. This permission is subject to conditions that must be complied with.

In the context of control activities, unauthorised special uses or non-compliance with conditions from the special use permit are recorded and appropriate regulatory measures are initiated (e.g. warning, fine and penalty payment, substitute performance).

In local thoroughfares, contact the respective city or municipal administration; outside the local thoroughfares, the locally responsible regional locations of Hessen Mobil – Straßen- und Verkehrsmanagement are responsible.

Applications shall specify the location, the type and duration of the special use and the size of the required road surfaces.

Applications for permission must be submitted in writing in good time before the start of the intended special use.

A special use permit is subject to a fee. The fee is based on the special usage fee regulations of the respective municipality or state.
