Auctioning food and perishable goods in the trade fair, exhibition and market industry

Would you like to auction food or other perishable products at a weekly market, for example? Under certain conditions, you can do this without an auctioneer's license.

    Description

If you want to auction goods commercially, you need a so-called auctioneer's license. This is subject to special requirements.

If the products to be auctioned are foodstuffs and other perishable goods and you wish to auction them at trade fairs, exhibitions and markets, you can apply for an exemption.

Perishable goods quickly lose their quality. These include, for example

    • fresh fruit
    • vegetables
    • Fish and meat
    • dairy products
    • Flowers and plants

If the food and goods would spoil or lose quality without the auction, the competent authority may grant you an exemption from the auctioning permit.

    The exemption applies to

    • Specialty and annual markets
    • weekly markets
    • wholesale markets
    • trade fairs
    • exhibitions

    Competent office

The competent authority is the municipal council at the place where the business is carried out.

    Contact point

Contact the trade office of the place where you wish to auction your goods.

    • Administrative court action

    Costs

If the application is rejected, a fee of 75% of the calculated costs will be charged.

If an application is withdrawn, the fee may be up to 50% of the calculated costs.

The official act can be made dependent on the payment of an appropriate advance. In this case, you will receive a corresponding request for payment after submitting the application. Please note that processing of your application may not begin until any advance payment has been received.

The actual amount depends on the time required (item 2234): Fee from 33,00 EUR (Information on cost composition can be found here)
