Extension of the § 2d AdVermiG certificate for an international adoption certificate

The certificate of a mediated international adoption procedure can be extended by 1 year upon request.

The international placement agency issues the adoptive parents with a certificate of placement if a child has been adopted from a non-member state of the Hague Adoption Convention.
This certificate can be used to document the adoption in official proceedings relating to the adopted child.

The certificate is valid for two years and expires as soon as a decision on the recognition of the foreign adoption by the family court has been made. If the procedure could not be completed within the two years, the certificate can be extended by one year on request.

Please note: This certificate is not issued for mediated adoptions from a member state of the Hague Adoption Convention. Instead, the child's country of origin issues an Article 23 Hague Convention certificate.

A successful international adoption procedure was carried out and a child from a non-member state of the Hague Adoption Convention was placed. Recognition of the adoption was applied for at the family court and a § 2d certificate was issued by the international placement agency.

If it has not been possible to conclude the court proceedings for the recognition and effectiveness of the foreign adoption within two years, an application can be made to extend the certificate for a further year. The application must be submitted to the foreign adoption agency working for you. An extension can only be made once.
