    If you want to fly a private aircraft, light aircraft, glider or free balloon, you must first pass a theory test.

    Description

    The Darmstadt and Kassel regional councils are responsible for issuing and processing private pilot licenses (excluding instrument flight) for aircraft, helicopters, gliders and balloons for citizens who are resident in the Darmstadt, Kassel or Giessen regional councils or for applicants/examinees whose ATO/DTO is based in the Darmstadt, Kassel or Giessen regional council area.
    In addition, we are also responsible for processing light aircraft pilot licenses (LAPL) for airplanes (A) and helicopters (H).

    Citizens can submit applications for the theory test for private pilots, acceptance and repetition.

    The applications relate to the areas PPL(A/H), LAPL(A/H), glider, free balloon.

    Procedure

    • The application for acceptance or repetition of the theoretical examination is submitted.
    • The documents are checked for correctness and completeness.
    • Prior registration for the theoretical examination using the form Recommendation for taking the theoretical examination via the ATO/DTO is required. Registration must be received by the Darmstadt Regional Council no later than two days before the desired examination date.
    • If the overall examination is to be split over two or more dates, only the subjects that are to be written on the first day of the examination must be indicated on the form. For the second date, a further registration using the form is then required. In the case of repeat examinations (one or more subject areas not passed), an informal registration by the student by e-mail is sufficient.
    • The costs are to be paid in cash or by EC card on the day of the examination before the examination as part of the admission procedure.
    • The examination is carried out.
    • Immediately afterwards, the person taking the test will receive a certificate confirming that they have passed or (partially) failed the test.
    • The entire examination or parts of it can be repeated.

    Bemerkungen

    The candidate will receive an e-mail confirmation of participation in the theoretical examination with further information. Participation in the theoretical examination is not possible without our email confirmation. It is therefore necessary to provide the applicant's e-mail address when registering for the theoretical examination.

    If the appointment cannot be kept, it must be canceled by e-mail at least one day before the examination date.

    In all cases, a valid passport or identity card must be presented on the day of the exam to verify identity.
