If you want to fly a private aircraft, you must apply for a private pilot's license.

The Darmstadt and Kassel regional councils are responsible for private pilot licenses (without instrument flight) for aircraft and helicopters, glider pilot licenses and balloon pilot licenses and light aircraft pilot licenses (LAPL) for aircraft and helicopters.

Citizens can submit applications for the initial issue of a private pilot license PPL(A), a light aircraft pilot license aircraft LAPL(A) or helicopter LAPL(H), a private pilot license helicopter PPL(H), a glider pilot license SPL or a balloon pilot license BPL.

The Darmstadt Regional Council and the Kassel Regional Council are responsible.

You can lodge an objection.

• The application to take the practical examination is submitted. In this form, you have the option of applying for the initial issue of the license if you pass the test.

• The authority will assign an examiner for the practical examination.
• If the exam is passed, the license is issued directly.
