Apply for a replacement individual operating permit

If you have lost your individual operating license, you must report the loss immediately and apply for a new one.

Vehicles may only be driven on public roads if they have been issued with an operating license. An operating license must be issued for a vehicle if it complies with the provisions of the StVZO or the relevant European regulations.

For vehicles that are subject to type approval and for which no type approval or general operating permit (ABE) is available, the operating permit must be issued by the registration authority before the vehicle is put into operation for the first time.

If you lose this individual operating permit, you must report the loss immediately and apply for a replacement.

In some cases, the registration authority will also require you to submit a sworn declaration of loss.

If you find the document you thought you had lost after the replacement document has been issued, you must return the old document to the licensing authority as soon as possible.
