Apply for reimbursement of expenses for volunteer care

This service is provided by the judiciary.

    Description

If you look after a person on a voluntary basis, you are entitled to reimbursement of necessary expenses. You can ask for an advance. The guardianship court will determine the reimbursement of expenses at your request.

Attention: If the person being cared for is destitute, you can claim compensation from the state treasury.

Hint: If the person being cared for is not destitute and your responsibilities also include the care of assets, you can withdraw the reimbursement of expenses directly from your income or assets.

The necessary expenses include, for example:

    • Fare
    • Parking taxes
    • Postage
    • Charges
    • Photocopying costs

You can settle the expenses individually or via a lump-sum expense allowance of currently 425.00 euros per year. The lump-sum expense allowance is granted regardless of your actual expenses.

In the case of individual billing, you must provide proof of the expenses by submitting receipts.
Note: If you have a guardianship or guardianship within your family, you are also entitled to reimbursement of expenses.

    Required documents

Only in the case of individual billing (with receipts): Statement of expenses

    Prerequisites

Management of a care for which no remuneration is received.

    Procedure

You submit the application informally to the competent authority. If you do not apply for a lump-sum reimbursement of expenses, you must submit the statement of expenses to the guardianship court in writing.

This determines the amount to be paid out.

    Deadlines

You must assert individual claims for compensation with the guardianship court no later than 15 months after they have arisen. There is also a cut-off period for the lump-sum expense allowance. For the first time, it begins on the anniversary following the appointment as a supervisor. The claim must be made by June 31 of the following year.

    Costs

    None

    Notes (specifics)

Vocational caregivers are deployed when voluntary care is not possible. You are entitled to remuneration. The amount of the remuneration is based on the Guardian and Guardian Remuneration Act. The remuneration also covers expenses incurred.

Tip: A caregiver can also make mistakes in the performance of his or her care activities. As a professional caregiver, you should therefore take out liability insurance.
