In the course of the negotiations on the Climate and Transformation Fund (KTF), it was decided on 13.12.2023 to end the funding through the environmental bonus in the near future. As of 00:00 on December 18, 2023, no new applications for the environmental bonus can therefore be submitted to the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA).

The background to this is the implementation of the ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court, as a result of which 60 billion euros will be withdrawn from the KTF. As a result, the KTF's business plan for 2024 will have to be revised and it will have fewer funds at its disposal.

The following applies to the environmental bonus: funding that has already been approved is not affected by the end of funding and will be paid out. Existing applications received by BAFA up to and including December 17, 2023 will be processed in the order in which they are received and - provided the eligibility requirements are met - approved.

Eligible applicants for the environmental bonus were

• Private individuals
• companies
• Companies with municipal participation
• foundations
• Corporations
• associations

The following were not eligible to apply

• the federal government and the federal states as well as their institutions and municipalities,
• all public institutions of the state that fulfill the definition of a contracting authority under public law within the meaning of the Act against Restraints of Competition,
• car manufacturers who participate in the financing of the environmental bonus,
• applicants for whom insolvency proceedings have been applied for or opened,
• Applicants who have submitted or are obliged to submit a statement of assets as a debtor within the meaning of the German Code of Civil Procedure or as an enforcement debtor within the meaning of the German Fiscal Code.
  If the applicant is a legal entity, the same applies to the owner of the legal entity.

Requirements for the promotion of new vehicles:

• The vehicle model must be on the list of eligible vehicles.
• It must be a new vehicle that is being registered for the first time.
• The purchase (conclusion of a purchase or leasing contract) and the first registration must have taken place on 18.5.2016 or later.
• The vehicle must be registered in Germany to the applicant.
• If purchased, it must remain registered for at least 6 months.
• In the case of leasing, the minimum holding period varies between 6, 12 and 24 months depending on the length of the leasing contract.
• If you apply for the federal share of the environmental bonus, the car industry's share of the environmental bonus must already have been paid. BAFA determines this by comparing your purchase costs with the net list prices stored in BAFA.

Requirements for the promotion of young used vehicles:

• The vehicle model must be on the list of eligible vehicles.
• The vehicle must have been registered for the first time after November 4, 2019 or later
• The vehicle must not have been registered for more than 12 months.
• The vehicle must have a maximum mileage of 15,000 kilometers at the time of registration to the second owner.

The funding program was very popular. Unfortunately, this means that it takes a little longer to process applications. The processing time of an application also depends on whether we have all the documents for an application.

There are no costs.
