Das Standesamt ist im Rathaus die zuständige Stelle für die Führung des Personenstandsregisters und die Er- sowie Ausstellung von Personenstandsurkunden. Die Standesbeamten prüfen außedem die Ehevoraussetzungen, führen Eheschließungen und prüfen die rechtliche Voraussetzung von eingetragenen Lebenspartnerschaften. Sie beurkunden außerdem Vaterschaftserkennungen.
